Who's attending?

You are cordially invited to join us on Friday April 24 as we learn about British supporters of the American Revolution.

As the nation commemorates the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, Guest Speaker Richard Howell explores a fascinating and often overlooked aspect of the American Revolution: the men and women within Great Britain who actively supported the American cause. Moving beyond the familiar narrative of conflict between colonies and Crown, the talk highlights those in the United Kingdom - from ordinary citizens to influential Members of Parliament - who, in various ways, championed the ideals of the Revolution, even as war unfolded.

With particular focus on the critical decade leading up to the outbreak of hostilities, the presentation examines the shifting political landscape in Great Britain, culminating in the dramatic changes of government in 1782-1783. It also sheds light on the complex peace negotiations that ultimately brought the war to a close. Rich in insight and perspective, this talk offers a compelling look at the transatlantic dimensions of the Revolution and the surprising allies who helped shape its outcome.
